A historic view of World Series History

The World Series of MLB Baseball is competition which is the title for the preceding MLB season. The two League Champions from each division, the American and National leagues. In its 108 years of competition, The Baseball World Series has had several MLB franchises win far more titles than the rest.

For the record The Oakland Athletics, who also played in Kansas City and Philadelphia, have the 3rd most Championship titles in history. The A’s have appeared in the Baseball Championship as the American League representative 14 times and won the World Series 9 times. The Oakland Athletics recently took home the prize in 1989 when they were dominating with Conseco and Henderson. The A’s most historic championship run was started in 1972 and ended in 1974 when they dominated for three consecutive years. The A’s in this era relied heavily on Hall of Fame outfielder Reggie – Mr October – Jackson and Hall of Fame Pitchers {Catfish Hunter and Vida Blue|Vida Blue and James Augustus Catfish Hunter.

The New York Yankees, who are also in the AL, have played in the Baseball World Series 40 times and have taken home the championship 26 times. Both the Yankees and the Athletics have taken home the more times than any other team in MLB history. The Yankees have been an extremely successful team and franchise the teams history, their longest run for an incredible 45 year stretch from between 1920 and 1964. During this period of time the NY Yankees went to the World Series r record 29 times and won 20. During this time, several of the most acclaimed MLB baseball players of all time played for the Yankees, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Mickey Mantle. The Yankees last won the Championship in 2009 when they were led by Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez.

Following the Yankees, the next most accomplished team in World Series Championship history is the St Louis Cardinals. The St Louis Cardinals, who represent the National League, have been to the Title Game 17 times and have won the title 10 times. The St. Louis Cardinals last won the World Series in 2006 when Albert Pujols and Scott Rolens led the team. The Cardinals had an impressive run of success between 1926 and 1934 when they went to the series 5 times winning 3. World Series History is amazing and between 1942 and 1946 St Louis Cardinals won another three titles as they were led by Hall of Famer Stan Musial. Can the Cardinals do it again against the Rangers in 2011?
