Rainwater Barrels, Rain Water Collection, And The World
Rain Water Harvesting is a traditional activity that pre-dates recorded history. As far back as records go man has found methods to store water that dropped from the sky for later use. It is likely this was a major concern of the earliest cavern dwellers.
The ways in which the cropping was done usually concerned capturing the water and storing it in some variety of fixed or lightweight container.
A few of these boxes included :

- Cisterns
- Dams
Today it is popular to utilise a rainwater barrel to gather rainwater from the roof of the house by means of a typhoon gutter system. There are some restrictions to this system thanks to the fact that a roof is capable of yielding far more water than a standard Barrel can hold.
For the above reason other receptacles e. G the RainXchange or Rainwater Hedge HOG have come into use because these have a much larger holding capacity than a fifty five gallon barrel.
The RainXchange was developed by a landscaper who at first built ornamental fountains for his clients that had a big water storage area under them. He worked out a way to produce these so that they could be bought and distributed to more distant locations and be installed by others.
These kits Essentially involve plastic frames resembling milk crates that may be wrapped in plastic to make any size “tank” you want just by digging the hole and placing and wrapping the crates. The decorative fountain or waterfall is placed above this and the stored water is pumped to “power” the item.
The Original Rainwater Pillow is like a giant water bed that’s placed under the house where it collects anywhere from 800 gallons to two hundred thousand gallons of water from the tempest gutter system.
The Rainwater HOG is like a giant “Gumby” and these “building blocks” can be interlinked to make as large a storage area as you would like which will fit along the side of the house under the eves, giving the system a neat aesthetic look. There is even an adaptation of this system called a Hedge Hog where these units are decorated as hedge dividers giving the system an ornamental look.
Modern Rainwater Harvesting is very like that of traditional Man in principle but we just have fancier collection receptacles and dirtier rain.
